According to lifelong Eel River angler, Stephen Rosenberg, and fly fishing historian, Professor Jack W. Berryman, Harry Hornbrook was King of the Eel. Hornbrook was a remarkably classy angler adored by his friends and angling competitors. A phenomenal caster with remarkable ‘fishing sense’, in early years, Hornbrook was a sponge, soaking up the knowledge of Eel River greats Jim Pray, Lloyd Silvius, Art Dedini and Ben Anderson. During the 1940s and 50s, the Hornbrook name was a regular on the annual Field and Stream Big Fish contest.
