In an article in the Sacramento Bee today, Susan Ferriss sheds light on the high levels of DBCP (a pesticide that has been linked to cancer) prevalent in central valley drinking water supplies. “High levels of nitrates leaking from septic tanks, farm fertilizers, and dairy-farm cow manure pollute groundwater in many parts of California. Of the 9,639 ground water wells tested in 2007, 648violated the state’s maximum contaminant level of 46 milligrams per liter, 3,533 wells fell into the upper legal limit of 10-45 mg/L range.

In a wave of good news, the internet is alive with posts about the enormous return of steelhead heading over the lower Columbia dams in the past month. The Steelhead fishing should be phenomenal on the Deschuttes, Grande Ronde, John Day, Clearwater, etc. this year.
